Hamas Signals Readiness To Surrender Heavy Weapons Under Ceasefire Conditions

GAZA CITY, Palestine – Hamas has reportedly expressed its willingness to place its heavy weapons in storage as part of a proposed second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, provided that Israel agrees to fully withdraw its troops from the Gaza Strip and end all military operations in the territory.

According to reports by Palestine Al-Youm, a television station affiliated with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement, an announcement on the proposed agreement could be made later on Thursday following discussions involving Hamas and international mediators.

The proposed arrangement, however, remains subject to Israel's approval before it can take effect.

Under the reported framework, Hamas would store its heavy weapons rather than destroy them, although it remains unclear which party would supervise or take custody of the arsenal. No information has been provided regarding the status of the group's light weapons.

The agreement is said to be tied to several key conditions, including a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, an end to targeted killings and the cessation of both air and ground military operations across the enclave.

Despite reports of progress in the negotiations, analysts believe the conditions could face strong opposition from Israel, which has previously resisted calls for a full withdrawal and an end to military operations without broader security guarantees.

The latest development comes amid continued international efforts to secure a lasting ceasefire and prevent further escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.
