Ondo State Commissioner for Finance, Omowunmi Isaac, and her brother, Kunle Odide, have instituted a lawsuit against 35 leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Owo Local Government Area over an alleged defamatory publication in which the commissioner was described as the "Governor's Mummy."
The case came up for hearing on Tuesday before Justice Yemi Fasanmi of the Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The defendants, who are APC elders and party leaders from the same local government area as the claimants, indicated their willingness to explore an amicable settlement, saying they would rather resolve the dispute than allow it to further deepen divisions within the party.
During the proceedings, Adekola Olawoye (SAN), a former Ondo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and the first defendant in the suit, appeared as counsel for himself and about seven other defendants, while separate legal representatives appeared for the remaining defendants.
Speaking with journalists after the hearing, Olawoye said the dispute stemmed from a letter he authored and sent via courier to the National Chairman of the APC, maintaining that his actions were lawful and within his rights as a member of the party.
Counsel to the commissioner, Olaoluwa Imoru, however, argued that the suit was founded on an alleged libellous publication authored, signed and caused to be published by the 35 defendants in a national newspaper on February 2, 2026.
