Influencer and financial commentator Gehgeh has weighed in on the debate over First Lady Oluremi Tinubu's advice encouraging Nigerians to embrace small businesses, saying her message was misunderstood.
Speaking on the Echoo Room podcast, Gehgeh said the First Lady was simply trying to encourage people to make the most of what they have while waiting for bigger opportunities.
"If you really pay attention to what she was saying, yes. She was trying to encourage Nigerians that the little thing you can do, pending when the big one comes, that's the whole idea," he said.
He added that critics often fail to consider their own circumstances, saying, "Nigerians will say, 'Why would you tell me to sell akara? Why won't your own child do it?' They forget that Tinubu's child and you are not the same person."
Gehgeh also addressed the ongoing "olodo" debate, insisting the term should not be taken as an insult.
When asked if he considered himself an olodo, he replied, "Yes, na. Be olodo, na."
He explained that the term is relative and depends on one's field of expertise.
"This olodo thing doesn't really mean anything. Even you, you are a banker now. If they remove you from banking and put you in another field, you'd be useless there."
He continued, "So, YC is a musician. If you take him out of music and put him in medicine, he becomes an olodo there. If you call me olodo, you simply mean that what you know, I don't know. And there's something I know that you don't know."
