Isabel Rose, a 26-year-old event management professional from Hackney, East London, has been sentenced to six years in prison by a Hong Kong court. The sentencing followed her conviction for blackmail and perverting the course of public justice after fabricating a rape allegation against a British banker to extort £100,000.
Rose met the unnamed British banker while travelling in Thailand. She travelled to Hong Kong on 31 January 2024 to visit him, staying at his Mid-Levels apartment.
After receiving an initial payment of £5,000 from the man, Rose began demanding escalating amounts of money. She ultimately threatened to file a police report unless he paid her £100,000.
When the banker could not pay, Rose reported him to the Hong Kong police for r@pe, leading to his temporary arrest. However, a thorough police investigation uncovered WhatsApp text logs and data that completely contradicted her claims. The banker was released without charge, and Rose was arrested instead.
As reported by the BBC and the South China Morning Post, District Court Judge Adriana Noelle Tse Ching found Rose guilty after a trial in March 2026. During the final sentencing, the judge described Rose's behavior as "wicked" and "evil", stating that Rose showed "not an iota of remorse" for taking advantage of the banker's kindness and romantic interest.
The judge then sentenced her to five years for blackmail and three years for perverting justice, ordering one year to be served consecutively for a total of six years.
