Yaya Toure Appointed Head Coach of Slovan Bratislava

Ivorian football legend and former Manchester City star Yaya Toure has been named the new head coach of Slovak champions Slovan Bratislava.

The 43-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the club, marking his first appointment as head coach of a senior team since retiring from professional football in 2020.

Expressing his excitement, Toure said he is eager to begin work and hopes to build on the club’s rich history while bringing his own ideas and identity to the team.

Before taking on the role, Toure gained coaching experience as an assistant with Olimpik Donetsk, Akhmat Grozny, Standard Liege, and most recently the Saudi Arabian national team under Roberto Mancini.

Slovan Bratislava chairman Ivan Kmotrik Jr. described the appointment as the start of a “new era” for the club, praising Toure’s elite football experience and ambition to succeed as a coach.

Toure replaces Vladimir Weiss, who has moved on to become Slovakia’s national team coach.
