The General Overseer of the Omega Power Ministry (OPM), Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, has announced the arrival of the first batch of Nigerians evacuated from South Africa to OPM facilities in Port Harcourt.
According to the cleric, the returnees arrived on June 12, barely a day after his own return to Nigeria, and were received at the OPM headquarters before being taken to an estate reportedly acquired specifically to accommodate Nigerians returning from South Africa.
Chinyere said many of the returnees arrived with difficult personal stories, including individuals who had lost spouses and others who had spent as long as 14 years in South Africa without returning home.
He disclosed that after inspecting the newly acquired estate, which is currently undergoing final renovations, the returnees were temporarily accommodated in one of OPM's free housing estates.
The cleric said the returnees were subsequently taken to OPM Free Hospital for comprehensive medical examinations after concerns were raised about their health conditions. Some medical issues were reportedly identified, with further evaluations scheduled.
According to him, the families were also provided with food and household supplies, including bags of rice, milk, Milo, cooking utensils and other essentials to help them settle.
In addition, children among the returnees have been enrolled in OPM's free schools and are expected to begin classes next week after measurements were taken for their school uniforms.
Chinyere stated that all accommodation, healthcare, feeding, education and welfare support being provided to the returnees are funded through tithes and offerings from members of the church.
He added that video interviews detailing the experiences of the returnees in South Africa would be released in the coming days.
