Peter Obi Speaks on Meeting With Dickson, Kwankwaso Amid NDC Challenges

ABUJA, Nigeria – Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has revealed details of his discussions with the party’s National Leader, Seriake Dickson, and vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, amid concerns over internal issues within the party.

In a statement shared on his X account on Friday, Obi said the meetings held on Democracy Day focused on strengthening unity within the NDC and advancing the party’s vision of national transformation.

According to him, despite being barely four months old, the NDC remains a party with a strong future and a clear mission to provide alternative leadership for Nigeria.

“The NDC, as a party that is barely four months old, despite the challenges, remains the party of the future, and the fruitful discussions at the meetings clearly underscore this fact,” Obi stated.

The former Anambra State governor stressed that members and leaders of the party must be willing to make sacrifices, accommodate differing opinions, and demonstrate tolerance in order to build trust and maintain unity.

He noted that such values are necessary to sustain the collective vision of transforming Nigeria through democratic governance and productive leadership.

Obi added that all stakeholders remain committed to the party’s objectives and expressed confidence that the NDC would continue to serve as a platform for delivering what he described as a “New Nigeria.”

“The NDC remains the vehicle that will convey Nigeria through purposeful, compassionate leadership, with firm commitment to productivity and democratic ideals towards the New Nigeria that is possible,” he said.

The statement comes amid recent reports of disagreements within the party following its primary elections and debates over internal party decisions. However, both Obi and Dickson have recently emphasized dialogue, reconciliation, and unity as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.

Peoplesmind reports that the latest consultations between Obi, Dickson and Kwankwaso are expected to calm tensions within the NDC and reinforce efforts to present a united front ahead of future political contests.
