Peter Obi Hits Kenneth Okonkwo With N5 Billion Defamation Threat, Demands Retraction Within 7 Days

Peter Obi has, through his lawyers, fired off a legal demand to Kenneth Okonkwo, giving him seven days to withdraw what were described as false, malicious and defamatory allegations made during a Channels TV interview.

In the June 9, 2026 letter, Obi's legal team accused Okonkwo of falsely claiming that Obi and South-East NDC leaders demanded ₦10 million bribes from aspirants, handpicked candidates from a hotel room, collected money from people abroad, and engaged in criminal activities.

The lawyers said the allegations portray Obi as a fraudster, bribe collector, scammer and participant in criminal conspiracy, insisting the claims are entirely false and unsupported.

Obi is demanding an immediate retraction, a public apology published across all platforms where the claims were circulated, and ₦5 billion in damages.

The letter warns that if Okonkwo fails to comply within seven days, legal proceedings will follow, including claims for damages, injunctions, public retractions and the full cost of litigation.
