“Only God Can End Insecurity in Nigeria” — Matawalle Calls for Unity, Prayer and Support for Security Agencies

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Muhammad Matawalle, has said that only God can ultimately bring an end to Nigeria’s ongoing insecurity challenges, amid a fresh wave of abductions and violent attacks across parts of the country.

Nigeria has recently witnessed renewed insecurity, with several reported incidents between May 15 and 17, including school attacks in Oyo and Borno States. In Oyo State’s Oriire Local Government Area, gunmen reportedly stormed schools and abducted 39 students and seven teachers. In Borno State, armed groups attacked schools in Mussa, Askira-Uba Local Government Area, abducting 42 pupils.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa, Matawalle described the situation as deeply troubling and stressed that tackling insecurity requires collective action from both security agencies and citizens.

He urged Nigerians to support security operatives and intensify prayers for peace, while also cautioning politicians against exploiting the crisis for political advantage.

According to him, insecurity affects everyone regardless of political or religious affiliation, and should not be turned into a tool for political attacks or propaganda.

He added that while government and security agencies are working to address the crisis, “it is only God that can bring an end to this insecurity,” alongside sustained collective efforts and prayers from Nigerians.
