The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) says it has secured commitments for local and international scholarships, employment opportunities for graduates, and mobility support for its leadership following a strategic engagement with the Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), High Chief (Engr.) Kestin Ebimorbowei Pondi.
The meeting, led by NANS President, Dist. Comr. Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, GCNS, focused on strengthening collaboration between the student body and the private security firm in areas of education, youth development, and national growth.
Speaking during the engagement, Akinteye described students as critical stakeholders in nation-building and commended Tantita for its contributions to the protection of Nigeria's oil and gas infrastructure.
According to him, “Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited has played a significant role in safeguarding Nigeria’s economic mainstay through its advanced, technology-driven oil and gas pipeline surveillance system, asset protection initiatives, intelligence support services, and comprehensive security operations across the Niger Delta region.”
The NANS President also dismissed calls by some groups for the Federal Government to terminate Tantita's contract, expressing the association's support for the company.
“As a conscious, objective, and meticulous student leader, I wish to unequivocally state that, contrary to the calls by certain detractors urging the Federal Government of Nigeria to discontinue the services of and terminate its contract with Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students holds a contrary position and gives full credence to the company and its contributions to national development,” he said.
Akinteye appealed to Tantita to expand its scholarship programmes to accommodate more Nigerian students through both local and international educational opportunities. He also urged the company to explore employment opportunities for students and graduates.
“Investing in the education and development of Nigerian students is an investment in the future of the nation,” he added.
Responding, Pondi commended the leadership of NANS and reaffirmed Tantita's commitment to supporting Nigerian students and national development.
He noted that Tantita has played a key role in protecting Nigeria's critical oil and gas assets through intelligence-led operations, advanced surveillance systems, and community-based security engagement.
According to him, the company's operations have contributed to reducing crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and illegal bunkering activities, leading to improved crude oil production and operational efficiency across key facilities.
Pondi also highlighted the company's contributions to youth engagement, job creation, and community empowerment across host communities in the Niger Delta.
He assured the NANS delegation of Tantita's commitment to the welfare and advancement of Nigerian students and subsequently approved requests for local and international scholarship support, job opportunities for graduates and stakeholders, as well as mobility support for the leadership of the association.
