A middle-aged mother of three, Mrs. Olaitan Amire, was reportedly hacked to death in Ido Ekiti, headquarters of Ido/Osi Local Government Area, Ekiti State.
A relative of the deceased, Mr. Dare Akinola, told Ekiti Reformer at Ido Ekiti Police Station that the incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026.
According to him, the matter has been reported to the police and two persons have been arrested for interrogation.
Akinola said there was an attempted arson on Friday. According to him, a passerby raised an alarm after noticing fire at the deceased’s window, which prevented the apartment from being set ablaze.
“But on Saturday she was not so lucky. Her assailants hacked her on the head, legs, face and other parts of her body, which led to her death,” he said.
He added that after killing her, the attackers attempted to set her body ablaze. They reportedly covered the body with her clothes and other belongings, and placed a container of petrol at the scene.
Efforts to reach the Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sunday Abutu, were unsuccessful as his line was not reachable at the time of filing this report.
