Abuja, Nigeria — The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has suspended constitutional lawyer Mike Ozekhome from the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) pending the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings against him.
The decision was announced in a statement issued by Kabir Akanbi, Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the LPPC, following the committee’s 173rd General Meeting held on June 23, 2026. The LPPC said the action was taken pursuant to Paragraph 26(6) of the Guidelines for the Conferment of the Rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, pending the final determination of disciplinary proceedings before its Disciplinary and Ethics Sub-Committee and other related proceedings.
According to the committee, the suspension is intended to safeguard the integrity, dignity and prestige of the SAN rank while the matters under review are being considered. It directed Ozekhome to refrain from parading himself, presenting himself or otherwise holding himself out as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria until the disciplinary process is concluded.
The LPPC did not disclose the specific allegations at the centre of the disciplinary action in its latest statement. However, the development marks a major moment in Nigeria’s legal profession, given Ozekhome’s long-standing prominence as a constitutional lawyer and public affairs commentator.
