A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, Otunba Adetunji Oyabambi, has criticized the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration over its legal battle with former Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
Oyabambi in a statement issued on Thursday said the state would have been better off if the government devoted the same energy to tackling insecurity, hardship, and internal governance challenges.
His reaction comes in the wake of the recent court proceedings involving Saraki and the Kwara State Government, a development that has continued to generate political debate across the state.
Speaking on the matter, the PDP stalwart alleged that the administration has become excessively preoccupied with Saraki while pressing issues affecting ordinary citizens remain unresolved.
“If the Kwara State Government had focused on insecurity, economic hardship, youth unemployment, and rural development as much as it focuses on Saraki, our state would be in a far better position today,” Oyabambi said.
According to him, Kwarans are more concerned about their safety, rising cost of living, and the condition of public infrastructure than political confrontations involving opposition figures.
He argued that after spending several years in office, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) should be concentrating on defending its record in government rather than engaging in what he described as endless political battles.
“Kwarans did not elect APC to spend years fighting political opponents. They elected the party to provide security, create economic opportunities, improve infrastructure, and make life better for citizens,” he stated.
Oyabambi further claimed that despite increased allocations accruing to states in recent years, many residents are yet to feel the expected impact in critical sectors.
He questioned whether the state’s growing revenues have translated into meaningful improvements in the lives of ordinary citizens, particularly those in rural communities.
The PDP chieftain also linked the current political tensions within the APC to what he described as leadership challenges within the ruling party.
According to him, the internal disagreements currently playing out in the APC suggest that all is not well within the governing party.
“When a government is constantly distracted by internal crises and political score-settling, governance inevitably suffers. The people deserve leaders whose primary concern is solving problems, not creating new political battles,” he said.
Oyabambi maintained that the administration appears uncomfortable with the presence and influence of strong political voices in the state, adding that effective leadership requires tolerance, inclusiveness, and the ability to accommodate differing opinions.
Drawing a comparison with the political leadership style of former Senate President Bukola Saraki, he argued that leaders should focus on building consensus and delivering results rather than deepening divisions.
He urged Kwarans to remain vigilant and hold public office holders accountable, insisting that future elections should be determined by performance, competence, and the ability to address the challenges confronting the state.
“The real issue before Kwarans today is not Saraki. The real issues are insecurity, hardship, unemployment, and the future of our young people. Those are the conversations government should be leading,” Oyabambi added.
