ABUJA, Nigeria – Former Kano State Governor and vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has disclosed details of his recent closed-door meeting with the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, amid ongoing discussions about the party’s internal unity and preparations ahead of the 2027 general election.
Kwankwaso revealed in a post on his official X account on Saturday that he hosted Obi at his Abuja residence on Friday following the latter’s return from an international trip.
According to him, the meeting provided an opportunity for both leaders to engage in what he described as frank and productive discussions on critical partisan and national issues.
“Yesterday, I had the honour of hosting my brother and partner, His Excellency Peter Obi, at my residence in Abuja,” Kwankwaso stated.
“I warmly welcomed him back from his highly productive international trip, and we engaged in frank and productive discussions on key partisan and national issues.”
The former governor emphasized that the NDC remains united despite recent reports of internal disagreements within the party.
“Our party, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), remains united. As leaders, we must continue to demonstrate maturity by making the necessary sacrifices and tolerating our differences in pursuit of our shared goal,” he said.
Kwankwaso further reaffirmed the commitment of the party’s leadership to its political objectives, expressing confidence that unity and cooperation among stakeholders would strengthen the party ahead of future electoral contests.
“We are resolute in this mission, and together, we shall ensure that Nigeria is OK,” he added.
The meeting comes amid heightened political activity within the NDC, with party leaders making efforts to reassure members and supporters of their commitment to unity and a common vision for Nigeria’s future.
