LOKOJA, Nigeria - Governor has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity in , declaring that bandits, kidnappers and other criminal elements will find no refuge within the state.
Speaking on Saturday at the Government House in while inspecting newly acquired Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and other security assets, Ododo said protecting lives and property remains the foremost responsibility of his government.
The governor stated that security is central to sustainable development and prosperity, stressing that the oath he took upon assuming office was a commitment to safeguard residents and their communities.
“The day I took the oath of office to lead Kogi State was the day I entered into a covenant with our people to provide security for lives and property. We will continue to pursue criminal elements and ensure they have no place in our state,” he said.
Ododo disclosed that a recent security briefing with President strengthened his resolve to intensify efforts against criminal groups and maintain peace across the state.
He acknowledged recent attacks in some communities but credited security agencies with responding swiftly to repel the attackers and limit the damage caused.
According to the governor, his administration has adopted a proactive approach to addressing security challenges. He noted that he personally visited affected communities, including Iluke, to assess the situation and determine appropriate interventions.
Ododo revealed that the state government has begun deploying specialised security equipment, including armoured protective vehicles, to support security agencies in confronting emerging threats.
He warned that criminal groups are increasingly adopting sophisticated tactics, including the use of drones and coordinated operational networks, but assured residents that security forces are adapting to counter these methods.
The governor further disclosed that intelligence reports uncovered attempts by criminal gangs to infiltrate communities through deceptive means. He commended security agencies, local vigilantes and hunters for their vigilance in preventing such plans from succeeding.
Ododo praised the collaborative efforts of the , the , the , local hunters and vigilante groups in maintaining security across the state.
As part of efforts to strengthen Kogi’s security architecture, the governor announced that the government had ordered 50 armoured protective vehicles, with the first batch already delivered and deployed for operations.
“No amount of resources is too much when it comes to protecting lives. We will continue to invest in the security of our people and ensure that every community in Kogi is safe,” he said.
The governor also ruled out negotiations with criminal groups or the payment of ransom for kidnapped victims, insisting that public resources should instead be directed toward equipping security agencies to defeat criminal elements.
Ododo reaffirmed his administration’s determination to reclaim every part of Kogi State from criminal activity and sustain peace, security and stability across all communities.
