Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has launched drone and missile attacks on United States military facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain, escalating tensions in the Gulf and threatening ongoing efforts to preserve a ceasefire.
According to the IRGC, the strikes targeted eight “important US military facilities,” including the Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait and the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet at Port Salman in Bahrain.
Kuwaiti authorities said their air defence systems intercepted incoming projectiles, with no immediate reports of casualties or damage. In Bahrain, officials confirmed that a residential building near the international airport was damaged, although no fatalities were recorded.
The IRGC warned that any further military action against Iran would be met with a “crushing response.”
The attacks came in retaliation for a second consecutive day of US airstrikes on Iranian targets. The US Central Command said its forces struck Iranian surveillance infrastructure, communication systems, air defence sites, drone storage facilities and minelayer capabilities after accusing Tehran of attacking a Panamanian-flagged oil tanker.
Iranian state media warned that continued US military operations would lead to a “complete halt” of negotiations aimed at ending the conflict, raising concerns over the future of the June 14 US-Iran memorandum of understanding brokered by Pakistan.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump issued a stern warning on his Truth Social platform, stating that if the United States is “forced to militarily complete the job, the Islamic Republic of Iran will no longer exist.”
The latest exchange of attacks has heightened fears of a wider regional conflict and cast fresh doubt over diplomatic efforts to sustain the fragile ceasefire.
