A media aide to Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, Mr. Osborne Okon, has been relieved of his appointment after publicly calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resign from office.
Okon, who served as Media Aide to the Political Adviser to the Governor, was dismissed with immediate effect following a social media post in which he criticized the President’s leadership and suggested that he should step down.
In a Facebook post that sparked controversy, Okon wrote: “In a sane clime President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would’ve respectfully and honourably resigned. I’m of APC but truth be told.”
The statement quickly attracted attention and reportedly drew the displeasure of government officials.
In a dismissal letter dated June 2, 2026, and signed by the Political Adviser to the Governor, Prince Godwin Ntuk Udeh, Ph.D., the government cited actions bordering on disloyalty as the reason for terminating Okon’s appointment.
The letter stated: “Following actions bordering on disloyalty and considering the necessity to always keep the Office of the Political Adviser purified, it has become compelling that you Mr. Osborne Ubong Okon be and is hereby relieved of your engagement as a Media Aide to the Political Adviser to His Excellency the Governor, with immediate effect and from today 2 June 2026.”
The statement further warned members of the public against dealing with Okon in any official capacity on behalf of the office, stressing that anyone who does so would be acting at his or her own risk.
“Any person having dealings with the above mentioned former Media Aide in relation to this office of his former engagement does so on his/her own peril,” the letter added.
The development has generated reactions on social media, with supporters and critics debating the implications of the dismissal on freedom of expression and political loyalty within government circles.
Neither Governor Umo Eno nor the Presidency had officially commented on the matter as of the time of filing this report.
