ENUGU, Nigeria – Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry, Enugu Nigeria (AMEN), Ejike Mbaka, has publicly reflected on his past relationship with Peter Obi, stating that he took significant personal risks to support the former governor during his impeachment ordeal in Anambra State.
Speaking during a church programme on Friday, Fr. Mbaka responded to criticism from some supporters of Obi, insisting that he had played a crucial role behind the scenes when the former governor faced political challenges.
According to the cleric, many individuals who currently identify as strong supporters of Obi were absent during the difficult period following his impeachment as governor.
“Listen, when Peter Obi was impeached as a governor, Peter Obi is still alive, all the midnight movement made to gather the documents to bring him back, Father Mbaka,” he said.
Mbaka maintained that he had never been an obstacle to Obi’s political journey and questioned claims suggesting otherwise.
“How did I not help him? I’m not a problem to him,” the cleric stated.
He further argued that the level of support he offered Obi during that period exceeded what many current supporters had contributed.
“The risk I took for him when he was impeached as a governor, 99.9 per cent of those who were following him abandoned him,” Mbaka said.
The cleric also mentioned notable figures, including Chris Uba and Cletus Ibeto, as witnesses to events surrounding the political crisis, suggesting they could attest to his involvement at the time.
Mbaka emphasized that his actions were motivated by his commitment to helping people and contributing to solutions rather than creating problems.
“I mean a lot for my people. I love my people. I’m a solution, not a problem,” he added.
