The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has raised concerns that ongoing global conflicts involving Israel, Iran, the United States, Russia, and Ukraine are making it increasingly difficult for Nigeria and other countries to access military equipment needed to combat insecurity.
He stated this on Saturday while delivering a keynote address at the Nigerian People’s Strategic Conference and Defence Exhibition 2026 in Abuja.
According to him, the geopolitical tensions have disrupted global supply chains for military hardware, limiting Nigeria’s ability to procure essential equipment for security operations. He stressed the need for Nigeria to strengthen local defence production as a long-term solution.
The minister also highlighted the absence of a comprehensive national database as a major setback in the fight against crime, noting that it hampers the ability of security agencies, especially the police, to effectively track criminals and prevent crime.
He called for urgent reforms to strengthen the country’s security architecture in response to evolving global and domestic challenges.
