Chelsea Eye Shock Move for Granit Xhaka After Xabi Alonso's Request

London, England  – Chelsea are reportedly considering a surprise summer move for Sunderland captain Granit Xhaka, following a request from new manager Xabi Alonso.

According to reports, the Blues are interested in signing the experienced Swiss midfielder, who previously played under Alonso during their time together at Bayer Leverkusen.

Sunderland, however, are said to be unwilling to sell their captain and insist they have not received any official offers for the 33-year-old.

Xhaka, who turns 34 in September, remains under contract with the Black Cats until 2028 after joining the club for £13 million last summer. He played a key role in helping Sunderland retain their Premier League status during the 2025/26 season.

Chelsea are reportedly seeking players with proven Premier League experience as Alonso begins rebuilding his squad, although the club is expected to be cautious over the transfer fee due to Xhaka's age.

Reports suggest Xhaka is open to a reunion with Alonso and is interested in becoming part of the Spaniard's new project at Stamford Bridge.
