The Borno State Government has reint£grated 720 f0rmer insvrgents into society after they compl£ted a derad!calisation, rehabil!tation and reint£gration programme under the state's non-k!netic strategy to address insvrgency.
The benef!ciaries, descr!bed by the government as low-r!sk partic!pants and class!fied as Batch 9 of the init!ative, were offic!ally s₩orn in and rel£ased to return to their resp£ctive communities across the state.
Speaking on the dev£lopment, the Sp£cial Adviser on Security to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, retired Brig. Gen. Ishaq Abdullahi, said the exercise represents another milestone in the state's efforts to promote peace and stability in the North-East through rehabil!tation and reint£gration.
He expla!ned that the programme, which was lavnched in July 2021 by the Borno State Government, has continued to receive former insvrgents who voluntarily surr3ndered to security agencies.
According to Abdullahi, the latest batch brings the total number of people reint3grated under the init!ative to 9,680, including spouses and children associated with former insvrgents.
He said partic!pants underwent a strvctured rehabil!tation process that included relig!ous instruction, couns£lling, hyg!ene edvcation, drvg abvse awareness and vocational tra!ning in skills such as carp3ntry, tail0ring, metal fabrication, phone repairs and solar installation.
The government also provided starter packs to support the beneficiaries as they return to civilian life, while community leaders and security stakeholders partic!pated in screening and verification processes before their reint£gration.
