Abuja, Nigeria – Former Senate President, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, has expressed concern over what he described as the gradual expansion of Boko Haram terr+rist activities from Nigeria’s North-East reg!on to the South-West, ₩arning that the insvrgents may be achieving their long-term objectives.
Speaking on the ₩orsening security situation in the country, Lawan noted that the terr+rist group's pattern of att@cks remains consistent, particularly its targeting of schools, students, and teachers.
“Boko Haram terr+rists are gradually achieving their target. It started in the North-East, and now it is spreading to the South-West. The m0dus operandi remains the same — they always abdvct school children and their teachers,” he said.
The former Senate President's remarks come amid renewed concerns over a series of abdvctions and att@cks on educational institutions across different parts of Nigeria. The comments have reignited f£ars that the tact!cs long associated with Boko Haram in the North-East may be spreading to other regions of the country.
Boko Haram, which emerged in the early 2000s, has ga!ned international not0riety for its violnt campaign aga!nst Western-style education and its att@cks on civilians, schools, and government institutions. The group was responsible for the abdvction of more than 200 schoolgirls in the infamous Chibok schoolgirls kdnap+ping, an inc*dent that drew global cond£mnation.
Although security forces have recorded successes against insvrgents in parts of the North-East, security experts ₩arn that splinter groups, cr!minal networks, and copycat kdnap+pers continue to pose significant thr£ats across the country.
