Atiku’s Camp Challenges Babachir Lawal to Provide Evidence for Election Rigging Allegations

According to a report by Daily Post on Monday, 1 June, 2026, in a fiery counterattack that has sent sparked significant debate within Nigeria’s political circles, the camp of African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has unleashed a blistering response to former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal.

The high-stakes drama erupted after Lawal’s dramatic exit from the party, where he launched scathing accusations of manipulation in the ADC presidential primaries.

Atiku’s team has wasted no time in condemning Lawal’s outburst, painting it as a desperate smear campaign fueled by frustration rather than facts.

They accuse the former SGF of launching wild, evidence-free attacks aimed at tarnishing a transparent democratic process he simply couldn’t control or influence.

Lawal dropped his bombshell on Monday while announcing his resignation, boldly claiming that Atiku had rigged the primaries held nationwide.

He openly questioned the entire exercise’s integrity, suggesting it was fatally compromised from the start.

His explosive departure and allegations threatened to cast a dark shadow over the party’s internal democracy and its flagbearer’s credibility.

But Atiku’s camp has hit back hard. In a strongly worded statement issued by Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, the team delivered a devastating rebuttal.

They slammed Lawal for maliciously attempting to malign not just Atiku, but the entire ADC family and its thousands of dedicated members across the country.

“Having chosen to malign a democratic process, insult thousands of ADC members nationwide, and make grave allegations without presenting a shred of evidence, it has become necessary to set the record straight,” the statement declared.

Shaibu passionately defended the primaries, describing them as a genuine reflection of the overwhelming will of party members from every corner of Nigeria.

He insisted the process was conducted openly across thousands of wards, delivering a clear, decisive, and legitimate victory that represented true democracy in action.

The Atiku camp pulled no punches in exposing what they see as the emptiness of Lawal’s claims. “The truth is straightforward.

The ADC presidential primaries were conducted across thousands of wards and produced a clear and decisive outcome.
