...Elders continue free medical outreach support from Interior Minister, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo
The PBAT Mandate Elders' Forum of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party's national leadership will engage relevant stakeholders before officially announcing the results of the recently concluded National Assembly primaries.
Speaking during the June meeting of the forum held in Akure, the Facilitator, Chief Demola Ijabiyi, said the elders were closely monitoring developments surrounding the primaries and remained optimistic that the party would take decisions capable of strengthening unity and cohesion within its ranks.
Chief Ijabiyi noted that while reports of dissatisfaction had emerged from some quarters, the APC leadership was known for its consultative approach and commitment to resolving concerns through dialogue.
"Our concern as elders is to ensure that the party remains united and focused. We understand that there are issues arising from the National Assembly primaries, but the official results are yet to be released by the National Working Committee," he said.
According to him, President Tinubu has consistently demonstrated a leadership style rooted in broad consultations and consensus-building, particularly on matters with significant political implications.
"I have confidence in President Tinubu's leadership. He does not take major political decisions without consulting widely. We believe the party's national leadership will act in the best interest of members and deliver outcomes that will promote harmony and prevent disaffection," he added.
The APC chieftain stressed that the selection of National Assembly candidates would be of strategic importance ahead of the 2027 general elections, emphasizing the need for fairness and equity in the process.
"Our interest is to ensure that nothing undermines the party's strength or affects support for President Tinubu's re-election bid. Equity and justice must guide the choice of candidates so that all stakeholders feel carried along," he said.
Chief Ijabiyi also commended the Minister of Interior, Dr. Bunmi Tunji-Ojo, for his sustained support for the welfare of elderly citizens in the state. He disclosed that many members of the forum had benefited from free medical interventions, including treatment for complex health conditions.
Also speaking, the Women's Leader of the forum, Mrs. Bunmi Osadahun, reaffirmed the group's commitment to party discipline and respect for the supremacy of the APC.
"We stand by the decisions of the National Working Committee and will support whatever outcome emerges from the party's leadership," she said.
Mrs. Osadahun equally lauded Dr. Tunji-Ojo for prioritising the health and welfare of elders across Ondo State through various intervention programmes.
