According to a report by Daily Post Nigeria on Wednesday, 3 June, 2026, Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege has publicly declared his support for Peter Obi as the presidential candidate he will back in the 2027 general election.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Wednesday, Omo-Agege, who recently aligned with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), stated clearly that Obi remains his choice for the country’s highest office.
He emphasized his commitment to the new party and positioned himself as a key figure ready to play an active role in upcoming polls.
“I have endorsed Peter Obi. Peter Obi is my presidential candidate for 2027,” Omo-Agege said during the interview.
He drew parallels with his past political loyalty, recalling how he gave full support to President Bola Tinubu while he was in the All Progressives Congress (APC). “I’m a political animal and when I was in APC I gave my all but now I’m in NDC, take it to the bank that my loyalty to the party stands,” he added.
Omo-Agege also addressed tensions within Delta State politics, claiming that supporters of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori are spreading false rumours about him out of fear.
According to him, the governor’s backers are concerned about his potential influence in the 2027 governorship election in Delta State.
“Sheriff’s e-rats are afraid of me and they are scared of what I will do to them at the elections,” he said.
He insisted he remains a loyal party man and dismissed any notion of weakness, asserting that he won the NDC primaries. “If you believe I lost the NDC primary, then I have a plot of land to sell to you. I won the primaries,” Omo-Agege declared.
The outspoken politician’s comments come at a time when political realignments are gaining momentum across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 elections.
Many observers see his move to the NDC and endorsement of Peter Obi the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate as part of a broader effort to build a strong opposition front against the ruling APC.
Omo-Agege, a prominent Delta politician and former Senator, served as Deputy President of the 9th Senate.
His political career has been marked by strong grassroots connections in Delta Central Senatorial District and a reputation for bold statements.
His departure from the APC and entry into the NDC has stirred conversations about potential shifts in opposition strategy, especially in the South-South region.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who leads Delta State under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has maintained a relatively steady administration focused on infrastructure and urban development.
However, the emergence of strong opposition voices like Omo-Agege signals that the battle for political control in the oil-rich state could intensify in the coming years.
