According to a report by Daily Post on Thursday May 21, 2026, Political tensions surrounding Rivers State deepened on Wednesday as an aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, publicly mocked Governor Siminalayi Fubara, while also circulating an old video clip allegedly showing the governor making derogatory remarks about his principal.
The comments and online exchanges came shortly after Governor Fubara announced his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary race, a move that has sparked widespread political reactions and renewed debate over the balance of power within Rivers State politics.
On Wednesday night, Governor Fubara confirmed his decision to step back from the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress. In his public statement, the governor insisted that his withdrawal should not be interpreted as weakness or fear.
According to him, the decision was made in the interest of peace and stability in Rivers State, suggesting that ongoing political tensions and divisions influenced his choice to step aside.
Olayinka argued that Fubara’s decision exposed what he described as a weakened political structure, claiming that the governor currently lacks meaningful support within key political positions in the state.
He alleged that no senatorial aspirant, House of Representatives candidate, or state assembly hopeful is aligned with Fubara’s camp. He further claimed that the governor does not have the backing of local government chairmen or councillors, suggesting instead that Wike’s political influence remains dominant across Rivers State.
In his words, Fubara was “totally and completely isolated politically,” while also questioning the governor’s assertion that his withdrawal was not an act of surrender.
