UC Berkeley Forces Graduate to Ditch Palestinian Flag before Diploma

UC Berkeley made a graduate remove his Palestinian flag before allowing him to cross the stage at the Goldman School of Public Policy ceremony.

Officials enforced university policy on the spot, telling the student, "I'm sorry, but we're not allowed to have flags. Flags are prohibited!"

When the graduate questioned it, they repeated: "It's the University policy. We are NOT allowed to have flags."

The student asked, "Do you want me to leave it here?" before complying and setting the flag aside.

The official made it clear: "We cannot display flags. We are prohibited from displaying flags."

Even at one of America's most radical campuses, rules against turning graduation into a political protest were upheld in this moment. No foreign flags, no disruption — just the diploma under American rules.
