A Thursday video shared by Barbadian singer Rihanna after the 2026 Met Gala 2026 has reignited online rivalry between fans of Tyla and Ayra Starr.
The conversation started after a viral clip from the Met Gala event on Sunday showed Tyla standing awkwardly nearby while Rihanna appeared occupied speaking with someone else during the Met Gala. Social media users quickly speculated that the South African singer had been ignored by the global pop star.
The situation escalated after Rihanna later posted a video using Ayra Starr’s song, Who’s Dat Girl, as background audio, prompting fans to interpret it as subtle shade towards Tyla.
Reacting to the clip, X user, #NuJhayhne, wrote, “No way she used ‘Who’s that girl’ by Ayra Starr in this video nah, Rihanna is messy.”
The online debate also revived conversations around the long-running fan rivalry between Ayra Starr and Tyla, often fuelled by comparisons over awards, streaming numbers, global success and Afrobeats/Amapiano influence.
However, both singers have repeatedly dismissed claims of personal issues between them.
