Nigerians Spent ₦3.33 Trillion on Mobile Data in Just 3 Months — NCC

Nigerians spent an estimated ₦3.33 trillion on mobile internet data between January and March 2026, according to new figures released by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

The amount marks a sharp increase from the ₦2.37 trillion recorded during the same period in 2025, reflecting the growing cost of staying connected in Africa’s largest digital economy.

The NCC data also revealed that internet consumption hit a new record high of 4.06 million terabytes in Q1 2026 — equivalent to more than 4 billion gigabytes — surpassing the previous quarterly peak of 3.86 million terabytes recorded in Q4 2025.

The rise has been linked to increasing data prices and heavier internet usage by consumers, raising concerns about the affordability of digital access for millions of Nigerians already battling economic hardship.
