The Niger State Government is facing growing criticism after budget documents revealed a fresh N1.5 billion allocation for executive tables and chairs at guest houses behind the Government House in Minna.
According to reports, the 2026 approved budget includes funds for the “Provision of 28 Executive Tables and Chairs for Additional 17 Guest Houses Behind Government House.”
This comes barely a year after the state reportedly spent about N1.625 billion between January and September 2025 on a similar furniture project for the same guest houses.
The development has sparked concerns over government spending priorities, especially as reports claim only N268 million was spent on water facilities during the same period, while markets and parks reportedly received just N93 million.
The budget also reportedly includes:
🔹 N2.1 billion for construction of 9 additional guest houses in Minna
🔹 Renovation projects within Government House
🔹 Over N1.5 billion allegedly spent on road construction at Suleja International Market
However, reports claim there was little or no visible evidence of major road construction work at the market during inspections, with traders reportedly unaware of any large-scale project.
The revelations have triggered public debate over transparency, accountability, and the state’s spending priorities amid economic hardship facing many Nigerians.
