The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has closed the sale and collection of expression of interest forms for the office of the president ahead of the 2027 general elections. However, the party extended the deadline for aspirants seeking tickets for other elective positions by one week.
In a statement signed by the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the NDC announced that the deadline for collecting expression of interest forms for State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, and governorship positions has been moved from May 17 to midnight of May 24, 2026.
The party said screening of aspirants who have completed the forms will begin on May 19 and end on May 26, while the collection and return of nomination forms for cleared aspirants will run from May 20 to May 26. The NDC warned that no further extension would be granted beyond the new deadline.
According to the party, all aspirants are expected to appear for screening and pre-qualification interviews with relevant documents, including educational certificates, voter’s card, passport photographs, membership card, and curriculum vitae. The party also directed that all submitted documents must be provided in six copies.
The NDC stated that aspirants would be assessed based on factors such as competence, character, local considerations, and the wishes of the electorate.
It added that the screening committee would also consider the party’s affirmative action policy for women, youths, and persons living with disabilities, while encouraging aspirants to embrace consensus-building during the process.
