There is fresh talk in Nigeria’s political space after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) registered the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) through a court order.
Back in 2025, INEC said many groups wanted to become political parties, but only a few met the rules. NDC was not among those that passed the early screening.
Later, INEC said it registered NDC because a court in Kogi State ordered it to do so.
This decision has caused serious arguments.
A top member of the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), Umar Ardo, said the process was not clear. According to him, NDC did not take part in the official registration steps, so he questioned how it got approval through court.
But the NDC leadership disagreed.
The party’s secretary, Ikenna Enekweizu, said NDC had been trying to register since 2017. He explained that they went to court after INEC rejected them, and the court later ordered their registration.
Also supporting NDC’s claim, Seriake Dickson said the party followed due process and was part of earlier applications before issues came up.
Meanwhile, records now show that both NDC and National Democratic Party (NDP) are officially listed as registered parties — both through court orders.
The situation is still raising questions, and many Nigerians are watching closely to see what happens next.
