Operatives of the Nigerian Navy Ship NNS Soroh in Bayelsa State have dismantled a reactivated illegal refining cluster in the Rivers and Bayelsa state border.
The operation, according to the Nigerian Navy, was carried out following intelligence indicating renewed illegal refining activities around the Egbema community, in Ahoada West Local Government Area, Rivers State.
The operation also involved a coordinated land and sea insertion, supported by aerial surveillance, towards locating concealed refining infrastructure in the creeks.
Refining ovens , dug out pits , storage facilities and equipment associated with the processing and movement of illegally refined petroleum products were discovered through the use of drone technology in the creeks.
The ongoing Operation Delta Sentinel, which is a daily operation in the creeks of the Niger Delta, is the brain behind the daily discovery of illegal Refining Sites, and the dismantling of clusters in the region, in line with the directives of the Chief of the Naval Staff Vice Admiral Idi Abbas.
