I came across a video of a Liberian woman making a bold statement: in her country, when a man marries a woman at 35, people often see it as him settling for less.
She compared it to buying a newspaper in the evening, by then, the best parts have already been read, and the freshness is gone.
"In Liberia, marrying a woman at 35 is like buying a newspaper in the evening. Many feel the prime parts have already been taken," she said.
I get that everyone has their own cultural opinions, but I don’t think this is the full truth. Just because a woman is 35 doesn’t mean she’s “expired" and men who marry women at 35 (or older) aren’t settling entirely for less, they simply saw something valuable in her that they didn’t find in much younger ladies.
Connection, maturity, depth, compatibility… these things don’t have an expiry date at 35.
Opinions are loud, but reality is more complex. Value and a successful married life aren't always about age.
