The Peoples Democratic Party backed by the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has issued a statement against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, following his recent media appearance in which he made a series of controversial remarks.
In a statement released on Wednesday and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the party condemned Wike’s comments as “an unsolicited display of political recklessness” and accused him of attacking respected Nigerians without restraint.
The PDP said the minister’s media engagement, which it described as publicly funded, “threw decency to the wind” and amounted to a performance “full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”
Rather than directly addressing the substance of Wike’s claims, the party said its statement was intended as an apology to Nigerians for previously elevating him to positions of authority, including governor and minister.
“We regret offering a platform to a person whose conduct and utterances have become a national embarrassment,” the statement said.
The party also called on individuals allegedly defamed by the ninister to pursue legal action, stressing that no individual is above the law.
On internal party matters, the PDP dismissed assertions about the existence of a “National Leader” position, noting that such an office is not recognised in its constitution.
It added that ongoing processes, including the sale of nomination forms and preparations for party primaries and a national convention, would proceed without interference.
