Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has revealed plans to ban midweek burials as part of efforts to improve productivity and reduce disruptions caused by constant funeral activities across the state.
Speaking during a recent event, the governor expressed concern over the growing culture of frequent and elaborate burials dominating weekdays in many communities.
“And by the special grace of God that is now over. I will be on the street from Monday to Saturday. Tuesday, burial, Wednesday, burial, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, burial,” Soludo stated.
According to the governor, the increasing rate of lavish and prolonged burial ceremonies has become a serious social issue affecting economic activities, movement, and productivity in the state.
He disclosed that new measures would soon be introduced to regulate burial practices and encourage a more balanced social lifestyle in Anambra.
The announcement has already sparked mixed reactions, with some supporting the move for economic reasons while others believe burial traditions should remain a personal and cultural matter.
