Political analyst and Chairman of the Guild of Public Affairs Analysts in Enugu State, Ambrose Igboke, has criticised the political approach adopted by Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, in his prolonged conflict with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television on Thursday May 21, 2026, Igboke argued that Fubara miscalculated politically by confronting Wike too early despite the former governor’s continued grip on the political structure in Rivers State.
According to him, the governor failed to properly study the power dynamics surrounding his emergence and instead relied on individuals who had themselves benefited politically from Wike.
“So he did not study the Forty-Eight Laws of Power very well, I think. He listened to people who were themselves beneficiaries of Wike,” Igboke said during the interview.
The Enugu-based analyst maintained that many of the politicians currently aligned with Fubara were originally loyal to Wike and had previously opposed Fubara’s emergence as governor.
He suggested that the Rivers governor should have first consolidated his political position before engaging in a confrontation with his predecessor.
Igboke’s comments came amid continuing political tensions in Rivers State following the withdrawal of Fubara and some of his allies from aspects of the APC governorship primary process, a development that has further intensified discussions around Wike’s influence over the state’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
The analyst described the Rivers crisis as a classic example of the dangers associated with godfather politics in Nigeria, arguing that Fubara entered office without fully understanding the complexities of political power and party control.
