In May 1998, history quietly unfolded at the wedding reception of a young Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO). The Chairman of the occasion was none other than Otunba Niyi Adebayo, the first Executive Governor of Ekiti State. But this was no ordinary honour. BAO was not just a groom that day—he was already a trusted insider, serving as the Secretary of the Adebayo for Governor Campaign Organization. It was on that basis that Otunba Adebayo himself chaired the ceremony, a gesture that symbolized confidence in Oyebanji’s future and his deep connection to the political heartbeat of Ekiti.
That moment was more than ceremonial; it was prophetic. Oyebanji’s closeness to government at such a young age gave him a rare vantage point. He was learning the ropes of governance, building networks, and absorbing lessons that would later define his leadership style. From Otunba Adebayo’s administration to subsequent governments, Oyebanji’s journey was one of steady preparation, marked by service as Special Assistant, Commissioner, and later Secretary to the State Government under Kayode Fayemi.
Today, as Governor, Oyebanji’s performance reflects that long apprenticeship. His administration has been praised for inclusivity, humility, and a relentless focus on development. Vice President Kashim Shettima recently commended him for achieving what few leaders manage—uniting all past governors of Ekiti under one canopy. That unity is not just symbolic; it is a stabilizing force that ensures continuity and collective progress for the state.
From infrastructure upgrades to education reforms and expanded social welfare, Oyebanji has shown that governance is not about grandstanding but about service. His accessibility and humility resonate deeply with the people, reinforcing the trust first placed in him back in 1998.
As the incoming election approaches, the story of Adebayo chairing Oyebanji’s wedding becomes a powerful metaphor. It shows that BAO is not an outsider parachuted into power, but a leader whose journey has been woven into Ekiti’s political fabric from the very beginning. His trajectory—from campaign secretary to governor—embodies continuity, stability, and proven performance.
For residents, the choice is clear. Supporting BAO means choosing a leader who has walked the path from youthful promise to seasoned governance, and who continues to carry the torch of progress with humility and vision. His story is Ekiti’s story: a narrative of destiny fulfilled, of leadership rooted in heritage, and of a future built on trust and unity.
