Food inflation in Nigeria has once again overtaken headline inflation for the first time in eight months, raising fresh concerns over the rising cost of living and pressure on household purchasing power.
According to the latest Consumer Price Index report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS):

📊 Headline inflation stood at 15.69%
The report also revealed that food inflation remained above 20% in 11 states across the country.
This marks the first time since August 2025 that food inflation has exceeded overall inflation levels. Between September 2025 and March 2026, headline inflation had remained higher due to rising costs in transport, housing, energy, and services.
The latest figures suggest Nigerians may once again face increasing pressure from rising food prices despite earlier signs of easing inflation.
