As the APC-led government under the leadership of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa prepares to organise another elaborate Children’s Day celebration filled with fanfare, stage performances, march past, and political branding at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Arcade, the painful reality confronting thousands of school children across Ondo State cannot be ignored.
Children in Ondo State deserve far more than one-day celebrations, media publicity, and colourful ceremonies. They deserve functional classrooms, conducive learning environments, qualified teachers, adequate learning materials, security, and a government genuinely committed to protecting their future.
While the APC government continues to spend energy projecting slogans and organising ceremonial events under different political narratives, many public schools across Ondo State remain in deplorable conditions. Several pupils still learn under leaking roofs, dilapidated classroom structures, overcrowded spaces, and poorly equipped learning environments that do not reflect the “Future Now” agenda constantly promoted by the government.
If the Ondo State Government truly values the children they claim to celebrate, let them present the modern schools they have built across the state. Let them show the rehabilitated classrooms, the educational reforms implemented, the teachers employed, and the practical investments made towards improving the standard of education in Ondo State.
Enough of annual Children’s Day celebrations without meaningful improvement in the educational sector.
A government that truly cares about children will prioritise quality education, school infrastructure, security, healthcare, and human capital development above political entertainment and propaganda-driven events.
The APC administration under Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa must understand that children cannot build their future on banners, speeches, and ceremonies alone. Students need conducive classrooms, access to educational materials, motivated teachers, and safe environments that support learning and personal development.
The future of Ondo State depends largely on the investment made in education today. Sadly, what we currently see is an educational system battling neglect, inadequate funding, poor infrastructure, and misplaced priorities from those entrusted with governance.
The people of Ondo State deserve leadership that will move beyond propaganda and deliver practical, people-oriented solutions capable of restoring dignity to public education and securing a brighter future for every child in the state.
