Chidi Odinkalu, a human rights attorney and past leader of the National Human Rights Commission, has spoken out regarding claims that the All Progressives Congress (APC) could be facing legal issues due to how it conducted its senatorial primary elections.
Odinkalu's comments came in response to comments made by attorney and social media influencer, Ekene Aninze, who suggested that the party's management of the primaries could lead to lawsuits ahead of the 2027 elections.
In his reaction, Odinkalu expressed worry about reports indicating that judges who supposedly received houses from the government were involved in selecting candidates for upcoming elections.
“Are you saying a political party has placed judges into positions whom it provided houses to, in order to determine who will be given tickets to represent the party in the next election? That seems quite suspicious,” he stated.
Previously, Aninze claimed that the APC had “hurt itself” by using a procedure that even the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would avoid.
He pointed out that the issue arose after the party allegedly sold nomination forms to candidates who were later barred from participating in the primaries.
He also stated that the APC failed to release results of the nationwide senatorial primaries after directing that electoral committees could not announce outcomes until they had been reviewed in Abuja.
