According to a report by Daily Post on May 28, 2026, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has advised the governorship candidate of the Allied People’s Movement, APM, Bimbo Adekanbi, not to adopt his political battles if she eventually emerges victorious in the 2027 governorship election.
Makinde gave the advice during the party’s presidential and governorship primary election held in the state. While addressing party members and supporters, the governor encouraged Adekanbi to focus on creating her own political identity and leadership approach instead of relying completely on his political style.
The governor explained that leadership comes with challenges and that every public office holder is bound to make mistakes at one point or another. He urged the APM candidate to avoid carrying over his personal political conflicts and instead build fresh relationships that would help her administration succeed.
Makinde stated that she should concentrate more on governance, improving the welfare of residents, and sustaining developmental projects that would benefit the people of the state. He also encouraged her to improve on the achievements already recorded under his administration.
Speaking further, the governor noted that his government’s development agenda has continued to evolve through the “Omituntun” agenda introduced since his first term in office. According to him, the programme has brought progress across different sectors in Oyo State.
Makinde reminded party members that they had experienced both “Omituntun 1.0” and “Omituntun 2.0,” adding that a new phase of development would continue in the coming years. He expressed confidence that Adekanbi would perform well and continue projects that would positively impact residents if given the opportunity to govern the state.
The governor also stressed the importance of service delivery, saying political leaders should remain committed to improving the lives of the people through effective governance and continuity in development programmes.
