The US Naval Forces Central Command just escalated big league.
After launching a blockade of Iranian ports on April 13, NAVCENT is now invoking full belligerent rights to board, search, and seize Iranian-flagged vessels, OFAC-sanctioned ships, and any suspected contraband carriers anywhere in the world.
This targets Iran’s massive shadow fleet of over 570 rusty tankers that have been dodging sanctions and pumping oil to buyers like China, India, and Turkey. Nearly $400 million a day in regime revenue is now at serious risk. About 90 percent of Iran’s trade moves by sea, so this is a direct economic hammer.
The original blockade keeps the Strait of Hormuz open for everyone except traffic to or from Iranian ports. No messing with non-Iranian shipping. But the new worldwide authority lets American forces hunt down the shadow fleet on the high seas without limits.
It’s a smart, aggressive move to starve the mullahs’ war machine and terror funding without a full invasion or shutting down global oil lanes. Iran is feeling the heat and already threatening retaliation. The regime’s days of easy sanction-busting cash are numbered.
America is enforcing the rules and protecting freedom of navigation the right way: with strength.
