At a recent event focused on Nigeria’s electoral law, Omoyele Sowore raised concerns about how elections are conducted and the fairness of the system.
In a video shared by SYMFONI TV, he explained that some parts of the Electoral Act go against the Nigerian Constitution, which is the highest law in the country. According to him, when there is any conflict, the Constitution should always come first. He questioned why people still depend on courts to explain laws that should already be clear, suggesting that legal delays can influence political outcomes.
Sowore also criticized the way leadership is chosen, saying the system often allows unqualified individuals to take power. He argued that despite having capable citizens, the process of selecting leaders does not always reflect the will or quality of the people
Another issue he highlighted was the structure of political participation. He pushed back against suggestions that he should focus only on local government politics, stressing that national leadership decisions affect everyone and should not be ignored.
He further pointed out irregularities in how candidates emerge, claiming that those seen collecting nomination forms are sometimes not the actual individuals who end up contesting elections.
In his words, "Ths people who are collecting the forms are not even The people contesting, we saw them on our way here."
