The Police have has established a specialized Violent Complaint Response Unit, VCRU, in Delta State as part of a broader restructuring of operational framework. The creation of the VCRU is a key component of the reorganization of the police in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to enhance operational efficiency, discipline, and accountability.
The Commissioner of Police of the Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, stated that the VCRU is designed to handle violent and high-risk complaints, including threats to life, grievous assault, domestic violence, and other related offences requiring urgent police intervention. The Unit will function as a rapid response and coordination platform, working in synergy with Divisions and Tactical teams to ensure prompt and professional handling of such incidents.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, Asaba,SP. Bright Edafe, in a statement on Saturday, indicated that as part of the take-off process, selected personnel nominated into the Unit underwent a three-day intensive retraining programme.
According to the PPRO, during the training, the Commissioner of Police, personally, addressed the officers, charging them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and respect for human rights in the discharge of their duties.
