Death has struck again, this time taking away Hajia Hadiza Jega, the wife of Prof Attahiru Jega
It is not clear when exactly she breathed her last but two persons, all ex-students of Prof Attahiru Jega, have confirmed the sad development to Intervention.
She is scheduled to be committed to mother earth by 2. 00 pm Sunday (05/04/2026) in Abuja.
Mostly calm and unassuming, Hajia Hadiza was a federal civil servant for the better part of her life. She read Sociology in the university.
Both Hadiza and her husband had an exteriority that made students in the Department of Political Science in Bayero University, Kano where Jega teaches to wonder aloud if the two ever quarrel as husband and wife. Even if there were ever tension between the two, it hardly ever manifested to outsiders.
Mallam Kabiru Abdullahi Yusuf, a mandarin of the Media Trust empire once wrote in a column that Jega and Hadiza were childhood friends and married as such.
This would thus be Jega’s very difficult moment to be overcome. Hajia Hadiza obviously appreciated the kind of husband she had – an activist who was not always available or who faced threats under military rule. Either in appreciation of that or just her nature or in the interest of her career, she wasn’t the publicly expressively activist gender warrior and not much about her is thus known.
But behind the scene, she was obviously a strong woman, minding the home and holding forte for an absent activist husband for much of the time.
