In a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter), a Nigerian lady shared her open and honest relationship with her mother, revealing how open conversations shaped her life.
The bond began when she was 17 and about to leave for university, when her mother handed her a heartfelt letter.

“When I was 17, my mum wrote me a letter. I was packing for school when she slipped a folded paper into my hand and told me to read it later. I was curious and read it immediately. The summary was that she didn’t just want to be my mother, she wanted to be my friend.”
She added that the letter was the start of a close connection in which she felt comfortable revealing everything about her life, including relationships and personal issues.
The lady also recalled how her mother openly talked difficult things with her, such as virginity and personal values, which influenced her thinking.
“My mum once asked me if I was a virgin. I told her yes. She then told me that keeping it doesn’t guarantee respect from a man or a perfect marriage. She said I should do it because I want to please God, not because of any man. That my virginity is not for my husband,” she added.
She also said that her mother guided her through crucial aspects of womanhood and was her first point of contact throughout major life events, such as relationship difficulties.
Her passionate statement has elicited strong reactions online.
