US deploys Troops to Nigeria to boost Fight against Boko Haram, ISWAP

The United States has confirmed the deployment of a small team of troops to Nigeria to strengthen intelligence gathering and provide operational support to local forces battling Boko Haram and ISWAP.

According to United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), the deployment follows closer security collaboration between Washington and Abuja and comes weeks after U.S. airstrikes targeted suspected extremist positions in northern Nigeria.

AFRICOM said the mission is focused on intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and advisory support, rather than direct combat, as part of efforts to degrade terrorist networks and enhance Nigeria’s counterterrorism capabilities.

The development signals renewed U.S. engagement in West Africa’s security landscape amid persistent insurgency threats in the region.
