Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has ordered a tight security clampdown around the Ikirun Palace following reports of a planned attempt to forcefully take over the palace.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor warned that the palace must remain sealed because the Akirun stool matter is still in court.
Governor Adeleke directed security agencies to immediately secure the palace and prevent any illegal entry. He warned that any prince or individual involved in the alleged plot would be held responsible.
According to the governor, the palace was not officially reopened. He explained that it was only briefly accessed for cleaning and maintenance to protect the historic building.
Adeleke stressed that no form of self-help will be tolerated, adding that peace in Ikirun must not be disturbed while legal processes continue.
“The palace remains sealed until the courts decide on the Akirun stool. Any violation will attract sanctions,” the governor said.
He also noted that only an executive order from his office can authorize the reopening of the palace.
The Akirun stool has been vacant since the death of Oba AbdulRauf Olawale Adedeji II in February 2021. His passing led to disputes among ruling houses, which are now before the courts.
The Osun State Government sealed the palace to prevent crisis and maintain peace in Ikirun, urging all parties to respect the rule of law.
