Garba, has warned African leaders to stop chasing absolute power, saying it has destroyed many leaders and their families in the past.
Garba said leaders who hold too much power without control often end up losing everything both their political legacy and personal safety.
In a post shared on X, he explained that even if a leader believes they ruled well, absolute power always comes with punishment. According to him, history has shown this again and again, but many African leaders refuse to learn.
He used the late Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi, as an example, saying Gaddafi’s long stay in power brought tragedy to his family. Garba described reports about Gaddafi’s son, Saif al-Islam, as sad but not surprising, based on historical patterns.
Garba advised leaders to focus on serving the people and protecting public institutions, instead of trying to control everything for personal interest.
He stressed that no leader in history has ever escaped the consequences of abusing absolute power.
